These stories by students were created in digital storytelling classes I teach at Metropolitan State University.

These samples include short videos that tell a personal story, and an audio piece that is based on the StoryCorps interview model.

FLIPPING SWITCHES, BY DENNY YANG

In this video, Denny Yang explores the experience of living in two cultures and speaking in two languages. Denny shot the video that appears at the beginning and toward the end of this digital story. He wrote the script, recorded it, and assembled the other media featured in the video.

big betty, by jennifer cannon

Jennifer Cannon’s video features family photos, woven together into a story about life changes, an RV, and the call to adventure. "My short video, 'Big Betty,' was featured in Metropolitan State's literary magazine's digital edition and I use it in my portfolio as an example of creative digital storytelling.”

LIFE, BY IAN KELLEY

Ian Kelley created this digital story to capture a deeply emotional journey he took with the birth of his son. Ian used cell phone footage he shot during the birth as well as Creative Commons media he found on the web to tell his story. As we join him on this journey, he teaches us something about premature births.

“death is scary but necessary,” by mai lee

Mai Lee created this audio story in a class on radio and podcasting. The story is modeled on StoryCorps, which produces short audio pieces featuring two people, who know each other well, telling stories from their lives.
