Workshops

Digital Story Makers offers workshops to meet the needs of individuals and organizations.

The workshops have a variety of structures.

  • Short one-time workshops (1-2 hours long) that introduce participants to digital storytelling and suggest resources to get started.
  • Multi-session workshops (10-15 hours) that provide hands-on instruction in creating digital stories. These workshops guide students through the process of making a digital story from start to finish. Participants leave the workshop with a finished digital story.
  • Scheduling is flexible.

Digital storytelling workshops appeal to a variety of participants:

  • Individuals who have a story to tell and/or want to learn the skills involved in digital storytelling.
  • K-12 or higher education faculty who are interested in incorporating digital storytelling in their curricula.
  • Non-profit organizations that want to use digital storytelling as a tool for empowering clients (e.g., teens, people with disabilities).
  • Community facilities (nursing homes, libraries, community centers, hospitals) that provide education and support to local residents.
  • Arts and cultural organizations that want to expand their offerings to include digital storytelling.

In our multi-session workshops you'll learn the following:

  • Why digital storytelling is a valuable and timely form of communication.
  • How to choose and develop a story that conveys emotion and a message.
  • Where to find media assets such as photographs and music, and how to record narration.
  • How to use a simple video editing program to put together the final digital story.
  • How to share stories with others.
